The Queen's Council

Under the direction of the Queen’s Council, the Queen Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant experience includes four months of weekend experiences and workshops that center on personal growth and development that uplifts heritage and self-confidence.

celebrating academic achievement and empowering young women's educational aspirations.

Queen Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant (QJSP) was created and designed to offer the much-needed stability to ensure completion of a baccalaureate degree for girls in their junior year of high school. The pillars of QJSP are:

Scholarship: In partnership with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and the United Negro College Fund, a renewable four-year tuition scholarship will be awarded annually to an HBCU college-bound student. Also, this scholarship pageant provides an opportunity for you to leverage your participation to raise funds for your educational endeavors.

Leadership: To help ensure that you are ready for that next chapter in your life, we have developed a series of workshops to prepare you for your higher education experiences. Workshops cover: College Planning, Social Engagement, Decision Making, Self-Identity, Cultural Appreciation, Etiquette, Financial Responsibility, Health and Fitness and more…

Relationship: To create sisterly relationships and a healthier you, you will be engaged in two sessions, held monthly:
The Emotional Intelligent Leader – Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability to perceive, interpret, demonstrate, control, and use emotions to communicate with and relate to others effectively and constructively.
Theatrical Arts, Poise and Presence – Performing arts develops poise and self-assuredness, builds teamwork, confidence, discipline, and analytical thinking.

Fundraising

People's Choice Awards - Dollars for our Scholars!

The unique aspect of the Queen Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant lies in its commitment to empowering participants with financial support for their college education. Upon the culmination of the pageant, participants will have accumulated funds designated for this purpose.

Each participant is encouraged to raise a minimum of $100, and any amount exceeding $600 will entitle them to receive 50% of the additional funds raised. This ensures that participants not only gain a memorable experience but also have the opportunity to secure financial assistance towards their academic journey.

Participants will have the tools to assist them, including:

  • A specialized donation letter
  • Solicitation of advertisement materials for the souvenir program
  • The Scholar Dollars – People’s Choice is an online crowdfunding  source fundraiser so that family and friends can donate to their college fund.
  • All donations are tax deductible.

Scholar Dollars – People’s Choice Award
The People’s Choice  is awarded to the participant that receives the receives the highest donations for their college fund.

Participant Requirements

● Enrolled as a high school junior female high school student in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth
County Schools;
● Maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher;
● Attend a historically Black college or university (HBCU) if awarded the title of Queen Juneteenth;
● Maintain good moral character and attend service projects;
● Attend all scheduled workshops and activities;

Participant Requirements


● Have no felony convictions or participated in any type of criminal activity that will dishonor the Queen Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant;
● Must not indulge in any illegal drugs, alcohol, or smoking under any circumstances during  participation in QJSP;
● Parental completion of all required consent, waivers and release forms;
● Participate in the pre and post Juneteenth Celebration activities.

The Queen Juneteenth Crown

Upon entry in the pageant, all QJSP participants carry the title of Miss Juneteenth. Each young lady will be rewarded in many ways through this experience, with one of them being awarded the title of Queen Juneteenth.  

The Queen Juneteenth Title Holder is awarded a four-year renewable tuition scholarship to attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU).  The Queen will hold her title for one year.

Civic Responsibility – During her senior high school year, the Queen will lead her Court in a project to leave the community a better place than they found it. 

The Queen Juneteenth Court

The Queen Juneteenth Court is comprised of Queen Juneteenth title holder, and the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Runner Ups.

  • 1st Attendant:  Miss Sankofa – Ensures the Queen’s Court reflects on the past to build toward a thriving future and will receive a Food Lion $500 scholarship.
  • 2nd Attendant: Miss Kuumba – Ensures that the Queen Juneteenth Court creates ways to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial and will receive a City of Winston-Salem Human Relations $500 scholarship.
  • 3rd Attendant: Miss Nia – Ensures the Queen Juneteenth Court takes positive actions and stays on purpose and will receive an Arts Council of W-S/Forsyth County $500 scholarship.
  • 4th Attendant: Miss Imani – Ensures that the Queen Juneteenth Court keeps faith in themselves and others and will receive a Triad Cultural Arts $500 scholarship.
